People – Rational is a privately owned, small/medium size, service-oriented business. The owners and executive leadership maintain a corporate culture of honesty and transparency. We have policies and processes that demonstrate we are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. Whether it be in person or online, Rational Solutions strives to be accessible to all.
All of our employees receive a living wage; adequate health care benefits; access to a retirement plan with employer-matching contribution; generous PTO, which includes paid time off for new parents, bereavement or other personal responsibilities; and a monthly commuting allowance. Employees have training opportunities, semi-annual reviews and opportunities for growth throughout the year. Employees have flexibility to work remotely and when they’re in the office they can expect full accessibility to all of the facilities. Requests for accommodations by employees or potential employees are welcomed and managed by our People team.
Beyond our walls, Rational employees are passionate about organizations creating positive changes in society. Our employees are involved in many local and international nonprofit organizations. We have a long-standing relationship with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and have contributed to their important work for many years in a row. In addition, this year Rational Solutions supported Treehouse, whose mission is to give foster kids a childhood and a future.
Planet – Employees are encouraged to do their part to reduce consumption of water and power and the creation of waste and emissions. We have a recycling and composting program in our office which is supported by our building waste management team. We’re also exploring how we can reward employees who cycle or walk to work since they’re not currently taking advantage of the commute reimbursement benefit.
Our Seattle office at 1201 Third is a building that earned a LEED-EB Gold certification in June 2017. It has a unique storm water capture and reclamation system that reduced water consumption by an average of 864,000 gallons per year. The building cleaning program includes low VOC cleaners and finishes, microfiber cleaning supplies, EnergyStar vacuum and extraction equipment, HEPA filters in all vacuum cleaners and Green Seal cleaning products. The building staff performs a quarterly audit of consumable supplies to ensure that purchased products are environmentally friendly and of the most renewable resources. In partnership with the tenants, the building currently diverts 69 percent of total building waste away from the landfill. According to the recent bi-annual survey completed by all 1201 Third building tenants, there was a 74 percent reduction from the baseline of single-occupant vehicle trips. To encourage this reduction from the baseline, the building offers secure and accessible bicycle racks, complimentary locker rooms with towel service, a Zip car on site, and direct access to the light rail, bus stops and other car share vehicles nearby.
Our Bellevue office at the Plaza Center is also owned and managed by realty industry leaders. It’s LEED-EBOM SILVER certified and has implemented “Green” building upgrades that increase energy efficiency, including low/no-VOC paint, carpet, and adhesives, 100% low energy T-* bulbs in lights fixtures and a high performance “green cleaning” program. Building management supplies all tenants with bins for composting and recycling (paper, batteries, computers, phones, printer cartridges, etc.). For transportation, the building is a short walk from a direct to Seattle bus line and the garage offers two, Level 2 electric vehicle chargers and a fleet of Zipcars.
